During the pandemic, Adopt Our Community launched the Senior Smiles Letter-Writing Initiative in collaboration with the British Columbia Youth Parliament and Senior Stamps (another youth-led non-profit). Working with students from across Canada - including areas such as Greater Vancouver, Saskatchewan, Montreal, and Toronto - and international participants from countries such as Chile, the Senior Smiles Letter-Writing Initiative managed to collect over 100 letters, both handwritten and digital. These letters were then distributed to retirement homes across British Columbia to help provide some happiness and relief for seniors during this difficult time. Additionally, Adopt Our Community hopes to create deeper connections between youth and seniors, giving both sides a stronger understanding of each other through these letters. Young members of all three organizations have had a great time writing these letters and sharing their thoughts/feelings, and it is in everyone’s hopes that the joy will be reciprocated by the seniors receiving them.
